SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Freezing fog overnight into the morning put a coating of hoar frost across eastern KELOLAND…which may be the closest we get to a white Christmas.

Another round of fog is on the way for central and eastern KELOLAND through the evening and into the night, with dense fog advisories in effect for portions of east-central and southeastern KELOLAND through the afternoon. There will likely be new advisories overnight, with fog and even freezing fog possible. Please keep this in mind if you’re out and about tonight.

The fog lingers into Christmas morning, but we’ll try to see improvement as we head into the afternoon. Out west, we won’t have much to worry about as Christmas day is shaping up to be a rather nice day with more sunshine West River.

Dry weather holds through Thursday with high pressure in place for a little while longer, but we do get some moisture in place for Friday into early Saturday. With above average temperatures in place, we’ll be looking at a chance for rain to the east and northeast that will try to linger into early Saturday. Once again, we’ll have drier and overall better weather to the west during this time.

Above average temperatures hold steady through the end of the week and into the weekend, but some cracks in the armor begin to show by the end of the year and the start of 2025. It won’t be a sharp drop like what we’ve seen before, but a gradual erosion of our warmth will come along by the start of next week.

We’ll also have a chance to see some snow showers by the start of next week in time with this cool-down…but this hinges on the track of low pressure and the timing of this chillier weather. Keep an eye out for updates.
