SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Today featured at least a little bit of improvement in the temperature side of things in some areas, but don’t get used to this. Big changes are on the way later this week.
Cloud cover will increase as we go through the rest of the evening and into the night, which will help keep temperatures from falling too far down the thermometer this time around. Beyond that, it’s a quiet night with a generally calm breeze.
Wednesday is the big travel day before Thanksgiving, and fortunately for us it’s shaping up to be pretty agreeable overall. While it’s a bit breezy West River and there may be some scattered flurries and snow showers in some locations to the north and east, it could be far worse.
Thanksgiving Day is the transition day from seasonably chilly to unseasonably cold with northwesterly flow kicking into higher gear. Some snow showers are possible to the west at times, but little to no accumulation is expected.
Then we turn our focus to what I hinted at earlier: Temperatures. Black Friday through the weekend will be rather cold at times. Daytime highs may only peak in the teens and 20s, with overnight lows falling into the single digits above and at times below zero. Plan accordingly with any outdoor activities.
By the start of next week, we try to moderate a bit with temperatures trying to get a bit closer to average by the first half of the upcoming work and school week.
