SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — People and pets are advised to stay out the water at Wall Lake be of high risks of algal toxin exposure, Minnehaha County Emergency Management said.
Wall Lake has high levels of harmful algal blooms, county emergency management said in a news release. The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources tested the water because of recent floods.
The state tracks the harmful algal blooms on an interactive map on the DANR website.
According to the state’s annual water quality report, of the 171,110 assessed lake acres only 20% support assigned beneficial uses. Examples of a beneficial use are immersion recreation such as swimming or fishing.
