SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Monday is Veterans Day, a time for us to honor our country’s heroes.
A program that helps veterans is getting a boost ahead of the federal holiday.
From clothing to gloves, Stand Down for Veterans helps connect local heroes with important items and resources.
“They also can get job services, hair cuts, and a wide variety of others things that community partners come together to give them,” Rachel Gangle with the Stand Down committee said.
Now, the program helping veterans in need is getting some help for its mission.
On Thursday, Levo Credit Union presented a $1,000 check to Stand Down for Veterans.
“Every year for Veterans Day, Levo Credit Union makes a contribution to a veteran-based organization, and this year we are choosing Stand Down for Veterans,” Levo employee Mike Rose said.
Rose, a U.S. Army Veteran, presented the check.
Rose and other Levo employees have also volunteered at Stand Down events.
“I feel that our veterans are often overlooked, and I feel it is my duty to do what I can and help them in their time of need, and it’s an honor to be here today,” Rose said.
The Sioux Falls stand down event is held each year in September.
“We’ll put it toward all those services that we provide for veterans during the stand down, so probably putting it toward food, clothing, things they need on that day, and that carries them throughout the year,” Gangle said.
Levo also donated coffee and cloth bags for veterans at the Stand Down earlier this year.
Rose donated socks.
