SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The sale of the Spring Creek Golf course in rural Harrisburg should close at the end of May, two real estate representatives said on Monday.

“The property is under contract to be sold,” said Dennis Breske of NAI properties. Both Breske and Gregg Brown of NAI said the sale should be completed on May 31. As with any purchase contract, there are still details to be completed, they said.

Brown and Breske said the new ownership’s plan is to operate the property as a golf course.

The South Dakota Wildlife Foundation, which is connected to the Game Fish and Parks department, owns the nearly 126-acre 18-hole golf course and the related buildings including the clubhouse.

The foundation was asking $3.2 million for the course. Neither Breske or Brown shared the agreed upon selling price.

The foundation bought the golf course for $2 million in 2015.

In a Nov. 13 KELOLAND News story, foundation executive development director Kristina Colby did not disclose the appraisal price on the golf course but said the $3.2 million is a fair price.

Colby also said in November that the foundation wanted the golf course to remain as a golf course with any sale.

The foundation had intended to convert at least part of the golf course into a campground as part of Good Earth State Park. Neighborhood opposition to that idea prompted the decision to sell the course.

Colby also said in November that indigenous tribes had questions about the use of the golf course land.

Breske said on Monday the foundation board has approved the sale.

Spring Creek Golf Course Inc. has been managing the course for the wildlife foundation. Breske and Brown said they did not know the details of the future operation or management.

The advertisement for the golf course said golf carts and other equipment were not for sale. The foundation does not hold the liquor license. Colby said in November the potential buyer would need to negotiate on the liquor license and any equipment it would want to buy.

Representatives of the Spring Creek management were not available on Monday afternoon.

The golf course drew attention from potential buyers, Brown said.

“We had good activity with multiple (interested buyers),” Brown said. “All were local, there was nobody out of the state. We were very pleased.”

The Spring Creek Golf Course has opened for play.

KELOLAND News also left a message with the foundation on Monday. This story will be updated if it responds.
