SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota Republican leaders attending the Republican National Convention tell us support for Donald Trump and his vice presidential pick, JD Vance of Ohio, is solid.
Dan Lederman is the past chair of the South Dakota Republican and is attending the event. He told KELOLAND News on the phone that the South Dakota delegation was excited to be there and happy with the choice of J.D. Vance as Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is one of 3 South Dakota electors. He is also in Milwaukee and says the mood is upbeat.
“With the announcement of Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as the Republican Vice Presidential choice there is a lot of discussion and a feeling of unity after the events in Pennsylvania, certainly the Republicans are united and hopefully the country is united. It’s a good feeling here at the Republican Convention,” said Jackley.
Jackley says security is tight, but that is to be expected.
“There is a lot of security here, and certainly there probably should be after the events in Pennsylvania. They are keeping everybody to feel safe, and I know there have been some challenges with the scheduling because of that. Overall, it’s been a great convention so far,” said Jackley.
Both Jackley and Lederman say changes in the schedule have created challenges for those attending but expect things to smooth out as the week goes on. Trump’s vice-presidential pick, J.D. Vance, is set to speak on Wednesday. The former president will address the crowd Thursday night.
