Names Released In Gregory County Fatal Crash
What: Two-Vehicle Crash
Where: U.S. Highway 18, mile marker 300
Three miles east of St. Charles, S.D.
When: 2:41 a.m., Sunday, June 26, 2022
Driver No. 1: Susan Bell, 55, Winner, S.D., Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup
Driver No. 2: Norman Chasing Hawk III, 42, Winner, S.D., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Passengers: Jessica Jensen, 34, Winner, S.D., Minor Injuries
William Foote, 33, Winner, S.D., Minor Injuries
Christian Old Lodge, 31, Ideal, S.D., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Vehicle: 2008 Chevrolet Silverado
ST. CHARLES, S.D. – A 55-year-old Winner woman has been identified as the person who died last Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash east of St. Charles.
Preliminary crash information indicates that both vehicles were westbound on U.S. Highway 18. The driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado did a U-turn and collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. Susan Bell, the driver of the 2011 Chevrolet pickup, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Norman Chasing Hawk III of Winner, the 42-year-old driver of the 2008 Chevrolet pickup, was wearing a seat belt and sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending against him.
The two female passengers were airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The other male occupant suffered minor injuries.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
