What: Two-Vehicle Crash
Where: U.S. Highway 18, mile marker 300
Three miles east of St. Charles, S.D.
When: 2:41 a.m., Sunday, June 26, 2022
Driver No. 1: Female, 55, Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup
Driver No. 2: Male, 42, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Passengers: Female,34, Minor Injuries
Male, 33, Minor Injuries
Female, 31, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Vehicle: 2008 Chevrolet Silverado
ST. CHARLES, S.D. – One person died and four others were injured early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash east of St. Charles.
Names of the five people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates that both vehicles were westbound on U.S. Highway 18. The 55-year-old female driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado did a U-turn and collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. The driver of the 2011 Chevrolet pickup, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 42-year-old male driver of the 2008 Chevrolet pickup, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending against him. The two female passengers were airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
