SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The South Dakota Renegades closed out the 2024 summer season with the Midwest championship by defeating Lonewolf Athletics 2-0 in the title game Sunday morning.
Madison Evans and Amanda Vacanti combined for no-hitter. Evans threw the first five innings, struck out nine and allowed just two baserunners (one walk and one hit-by-pitch). Vacanti tossed the final two innings, tallied three strikeouts and one walk.
“I’m super excited that we ended on a really high note,” Vacanti said. “I think we’re all super happy about winning this, so super fun.”
The Renegades come out firing on offense. Evans led off the bottom of the first with a triple to right. Claire Wynja, the next batter, belted a two-run homer to center, which ended up being the only two runs of the contest.
“It’s just a special group,” Renegades head coach Kara McDougall said. “It means a lot to them to end on a win. We had a great year this year, won a lot of games, so it just means a lot to these girls to finish on a win and end on a positive note.”
The Renegades complete the season with a 43-5 record.
