JULY 22, 2024:

South Dakota feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 205,000 cattle on feed on July 1, 2024, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural
Statistics Service. This inventory was up 14% from last year.

Placements during June totaled 24,000 head, up 9% from 2023.

Fed cattle marketings for the month of June totaled 36,000 head, down 10% from last year.

Other disappearance during June totaled 3,000 head, up 1,000 head from last year.

JUNE 24, 2024:

South Dakota feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 220,000 cattle on feed on June 1, 2024, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This inventory was up 10% from last year.

Placements during May totaled 24,000 head, down 14% from 2023.

Fed cattle marketings for the month of May totaled 47,000 head, up 12% from last year.

Other disappearance during May totaled 2,000 head, down 4,000 head from last year.

MAY 25, 2024:

South Dakota feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 245,000 cattle on feed on May 1, 2024, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This inventory was up 11% from last year.

Placements during April totaled 30,000 head, down 3% from 2023.

Fed cattle marketings for the month of April totaled 34,000 head, up 13% from last year.

Other disappearance during April totaled 1,000 head, unchanged from last year.
