For the week ending May 1, 2022, there were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 11% very short, 31% short, 49% adequate, and 9% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 13% very short, 38% short, 43% adequate, and 6% surplus.

 

Field Crops Report:

Corn planted was 3%, behind 22% last year and 13% for the five-year average.

Soybeans planted was 1%, behind 7% last year, and near 4% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 3% very poor, 21% poor, 51% fair, 24% good, and 1% excellent.

Spring wheat planted was 48%, well behind 78% last year, and near 51% average. Emerged was 12%, well behind 43% last year, and behind 22% average.

Oats planted was 48%, well behind 72% last year, and near 50% average. Emerged was 20%, behind 29% last year, and near 22% average.

Sorghum planted was 2%, near 1% average.

 

Pasture and Range Report:

Pasture and range conditions rated 19% very poor, 39% poor, 37% fair, 5% good, and 0% excellent.
