An investigation was underway on Tuesday after police found the remains of four human infants inside an apartment in south Boston earlier this month.
“A post-mortem examination was performed on two infant males and two infant females, and the results of the autopsies remain pending,” Boston police said Monday.
Officers responded to the residence on Nov. 17 and found what appeared to be “a human fetus or infant,” according to authorities. They returned to the home on East Broadway the following day to further investigate at which time they recovered “additional human remains.”
At least one body was found in the freezer.
Property records obtained by the Boston Herald show there are nine apartment units inside the building. Authorities reportedly discovered the remains inside a single-bedroom unit, which has had a single owner, a woman in her sixties, since the 1980s.
As the investigation continues to unfold, neighbors remain shocked over the horrific discovery made so close to their homes.
“It’s obviously heartbreaking,” resident Connor Foley told NBC 10. “I think that’s the biggest thing is just that — it’s weird not knowing what happened. Obviously there was that discovery but we have no idea what led to that happening, if there’s still a threat. … I think that’s the biggest thing is people just want to figure out what happened.”
No arrests have been announced and police have still not said who called 911 to report the remains. Anyone with information has been asked to call local police.
