SIOUX FALLS SD (KELO) — Good morning KELOLAND! After snow yesterday in the region, today looks quiet ahead of the next round of snow coming this weekend. You can see the snow piles in Deadwood. Prepare for more snow in the coming days.

A winter storm warning has been posted for the northern Black Hills shown on the map below. Expect 6-12+ inches of accumulation starting Saturday morning through Monday. Along with the snow, strong NW winds will create pockets of blowing and drifting snow.

Snow totals through Monday are expected to be 6-12+”, with those highest totals in the higher elevation areas of the northern hills.

The weekend forecast in the Sioux Falls area looks quiet. Expect upper 20s in Sioux Falls today with mostly cloudy skies.

Futurecast shows afternoon temperatures in the 30s day across western KELOLAND. The snow should start tonight in the Black Hills, with another area of snow expected in far northeastern SD. Highs tomorrow will be milder, mainly in the 30s with areas of clouds rolling in from the northwest. Colder air and snow chances will pick up Saturday night again, with highs dropping through the 20s on Sunday.

The strongest winds tomorrow will develop near the Black Hills, so blowing snow is a concern in the winter storm warning area. We expect a general increase in NW winds on Sunday across the east as well.

The overall snow picture into next week is still looking relatively low across the plains of KELOLAND. After a cold start to next week, much of the data is pointing toward above normal temperatures by the middle of next week once again.

Here are the details of the forecast.
