What is Skills for Clean Growth?

Skills for Clean Growth is a support program for SMEs in the West of England that’s fully funded as part of the government’s “Workforce of the Future” support scheme.

The scheme was created to help manage the risk and embrace the transition to a net-zero workplace. The programme will provide businesses with resources, skills and connections to help drive growth across the West of England.

The support that is offered in these three key areas are:

  1. Green Skills Need Analysis & Action Plan – Analysing the skills and knowledge needed in your business and developing a bespoke action plan to support you on your clean growth journey.
  2. Training and Workshops – Developing practical skills across your business that are directly actionable, drawing on expertise from UWE Academics and professional services staff, Industry leaders and subject matter experts.
  3. Skills Ecosystem and Network – Practical, targeted resources, peer learning and connections to like-minded businesses.

What is the Workforce for the Future program?

The Workspace for the Future program is an in-depth support program that ensures your employees have the correct access to training, support and education to help your business thrive.

The Workforce for the Future program offers support from its expert partners, and they will help to identify the skills and support needed to maintain and attract staff members whilst maintaining growth.

Development and internal investing are core to the Workforce for the Future program and can provide your business with:

  • Workforce development and planning.
  • Access to training and skills development.
  • Support for apprenticeships and work placements.
  • Education and skills pathways.

Workforce for the Future is free for you to join and is available to businesses with less than 250 employees (SMEs) based in the West of England, including:

  • Bath
  • Bristol
  • North East Somerset
  • North Somerset
  • South Gloucestershire

Who is eligible for Skills for Clean Growth?

To be eligible, you must be classed as a small or medium enterprise (SME) and have a business located within the West of England:

  • Bath
  • Bristol
  • North East Somerset
  • North Somerset
  • South Gloucestershire

What happens after my application is sent?

Once you have completed the application, you will be contacted by a member of the UWE team to discuss your application and the program in more detail. They will also look to discuss your business aims and requirements and flesh these out with you.

Once the initial call takes place, the following will happen:

  • UWE Bristol and the West of England Combined Authority will then check your eligibility.
    If eligible, the analysis and action planning stage will commence.
  • They will both identify suitable learning and development opportunities that are available within a short timescale.
  • They will then discuss and decide what your business would benefit from most. In-house training, a bespoke course, or advanced level modules.
  • Afterwards, they will identify learning opportunities for participating SMEs until early 2023.
  • You will be able to access suitable development throughout the course of the programme.
