SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– All four Sioux Falls high schools will be featured in the 33rd annual Presidents Bowl for two in city rival games.
Fourth ranked Jefferson is 2-0 on the season after collecting wins over Watertown and Roosevelt. The Cavs have scored 79 points, while holding their opponents to a single touchdown. Jefferson feels it’s experience has contributed to the strong start to the season.
“Quarterback is back from last year, Ethan Swanson’s playing at a really high level. We’re able to run the ball effectively, we weren’t able to do that last year. We’re taking care of the football much better than we did last year. And if you do those two things, usually good things happen,” Jefferson head coach Vince Benedetto said.
The Cavaliers will meet Washington, who is 0-2, after suffering losses to a pair of top-ranked teams in Brandon Valley and Harrisburg.
“We need to be able to stop the run, we need to be able to cause some turnovers and put Jefferson in uncomfortable positions. First down is going to be really important, if we can win first down and make that second down something they’re not used to, then we feel like we’re in a good spot,” Washington head coach Ryan Evans said.
The nightcap pits #2 Lincoln against Roosevelt. The Patriots are 2-0 outscoring their opponents 91-26, even though they have some new names and faces.
“Any metro team can beat any others on any given Friday night or Saturday night in this case, and so we have to be ready to go. They have they have some quality athletes over there that we have to worry about, and we’re going to give it our due diligence and come out ready to play on Saturday,” Lincoln Patriots head coach Jared Fredenburg said.
The Rough Riders fell to Jefferson in week two 41-7, but they’re hoping to learn from their mistakes.
“My biggest message to the kids after that game is that who we are in week two does not define us as a football team for the season. And we have to take this day by day in practice and game by game and make sure that we’re stacking bricks. And if that’s the case, we’ll be there in the end and so that’s kind of where we’re at,” Roosevelt head coach Jason Stahlberg said.
The Presidents Bowl is set for Saturday with the first game kicking off at 3 p.m.
