WILLIAMSPORT, PENN. (KELO) — The Sioux Falls Little League team fell to Staten Island, N.Y., 6-3 in an elimination game at the Little League World Series Saturday.
The Midwest champions struck first by scoring a run on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth. The Metro champ answered with a four-run rally in the bottom of the frame. Sioux Falls cut into the deficit with a Sam Wurth RBI single in the fifth, but two more runs from the New Yorkers in the bottom of the fifth pushed the lead to four. SD fought back with one run in sixth, but that was it for the offense.
South Dakota managed just three hits, while State Island accumulated 11.
Sioux Falls dropped both of its contests at the Little League World Series as it suffered a 2-1 loss to Florida, the Southeast champion, on Wednesday.
