SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — UPDATE: Authorities have identified the driver who died after their vehicle went into the Missouri River Friday morning.

The Sioux City Police Department identified the driver as Delana H. Jackson, 55, of Sioux City.

The police said Jackson was driving a Ford F-150 truck that crashed into the concrete median then drove into the Missouri River Friday morning.

Jackson’s body was found inside the truck after the pickup was towed out of the river Friday afternoon.

A male passenger was able to escape from the vehicle by breaking out a rear window as the truck was entering the river.


The driver of a pickup that drove into the Missouri River on Friday was found deceased.

According to the Sioux City Police Department, officials were able to retrieve a 1994 Ford F-150 from the Missouri River Friday afternoon around 4:40 p.m.

Inside the vehicle, officials found the 55-year-old male driver, who had been unaccounted for prior to the retrieval of the vehicle, deceased.

The truck drove into the Missouri River just off I-29 near the rail bridge at around 6:35 a.m. on Friday after an apparent medical emergency.

A male who was a passenger in the vehicle was able to get out of the pickup and was taken to a local hospital for treatment after Friday’s incident.

The crash is still under investigation. Police are still waiting autopsy reports.
