INDIANAPOLIS — A shooting on the south side of Indianapolis left a man in critical condition Saturday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 6400 block of Avacado Drive — which is located near South Belmont Avenue and Interstate 69 — around 9:22 p.m. on a report of a person shot. When police arrived at the scene, they located a an adult male with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

IMPD initially reported that the victim was in “serious condition.” During a subsequent media briefing, police clarified that the victim was transported from the scene to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Police indicated that the victim has not been very cooperative with investigators. According to IMPD, the victim said he was standing outside a home in the area when a few people approached him and then shot him.

“If people don’t tell us what happened, it makes it extremely hard to solve the crime,” IMPD Night Watch Captain Don Weilhammer said. “… Hopefully, somebody saw something and can reach out to a detective and help us solve this case”
