SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — State prison offender Harry Kirkvold has died, according to the South Dakota Department of Corrections.
Kirkvold, who was 70, died at the Jameson Annex to the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls on July 13th. He was serving a sentence for aggravated assault from Davison County at the time of his death.
So far in 2024, the DOC has had seven inmate deaths, Kirkvold’s being the latest.
On January 11, the DOC announced that inmate Benjamin Block had died.
On February 18, the DOC announced that inmate Brad Reay had died.
On March 23, the death of inmate William Cody was announced.
On April 15, the DOC announced that inmate William Decory had died.
On April 23, the DOC announced the death of inmate Brian Gibbons.
On May 28, the death of inmate Douglas Logan was announced.
The DOC does not announce causes of death for inmates.
