Seven Springs Wine Festival Celebrates PA Wine

The annual Wine Festival at Seven Springs is really hard to beat if you are a fan of Pennsylvania wine. Well over two dozen producers from all over the state bring an untold number of samples for a try-as-much-as-you-want style event spanning three days each summer.

The interesting thing about Pennsylvania wine that you’ll note when visiting this festival is that anything can be made into wine- not just grapes. There are dry fruit wines, sweet fruit wines, sparkling wine, wines made from native grapes (Concord and Niagara, for example), honey wine (mead), and, of course, traditional wines made from European vinifera varieties (Riesling, Chardonnay, etc.). Many producers even source their grapes from all over the USA or the world at large to make premium wine from popular grapes that, if we are being honest, don’t grow as well in our state.

Suffice it to say, you really have a lot to choose from at this one.

As most wineries that visited for the festival brought dozens of wines, not just two or three, we certainly had our work cut out for us as we sampled our way through the many styles from producers like Bella Terra Vineyards, Kingview Mead, Penn Shore Winery, and so many more.

One of the aspects of this festival we loved was how friendly all the winery representatives were. This is no “here is your pour, next!” kind of event, but rather one where you can linger, learn about the wines, and get a handful of pours, all without having to go to the back of the line. This took a few minutes for us to figure out, as some of the lines felt slow by alcohol festival standards. When you realize that you get to linger and learn a bit in addition to sampling at most booths, we will happily wait for that (although, if we’re honest, the wine lines were always remarkably quick at every wine tent we visited).

On top of the wine samples, the event offers live music, seminars on Saturday and Sunday, craft vendors, and so much more. Throw on other amenities that you can typically find at Seven Springs proper, and you have the ability to make this one a packed day or a full weekend if you decided to stay overnight, too!

Eating at the Event is a Bit of a Challenge

If there is any downside to the Wine Festival at Seven Springs, it would be that with this one’s immense popularity comes the crowds.

While this one is less noticeable at the wine vendors due to the extreme volume of wineries available, we could tell the impact most in the lines of the food vendors mixed in between the wine stands. Most lines were consistently about 20-30 people deep at every stall we walked by, and we decided to wait to eat until after leaving the property outright.

That said, while the lines for the food stands at the festival were a bit long, it is worth noting that Seven Springs also has a number of restaurants on the property that those who want to enjoy a larger meal may wish to check out (like our go-to standard, Foggy Goggle, when open at least). That said, if having some snacks during the wine festival is something you rely on, you may want to consider bringing that pretzel ring from home instead.

Apart from this one minor concern, we have to admit we had a great time tasting our way around Pennsylvania wineries at the Seven Springs Wine Festival.
