SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A settlement is allowing girls’ gymnastics to continue in the Sioux Falls School District through the 2026-2027 school year. It all started last September when a group of parents filed a lawsuit after the district cut the program due to declining numbers. The lawsuit said the district violated Title IX requirements.
A settlement between parents and the district was approved by the U.S District Court on Friday.
Court documents said gymnastics will be offered for the next three school years at one east and one west side high school location.
The settlement said any decision to cut the gymnastics program after the 2026-2027 school year must be made through the district’s budget approval process and recommended to the School District Board.
Additionally, the settlement said that for as long as the district offers gymnastics, parents who filed the lawsuit can not assert any Title IX-related claims against the District related to gymnastics.
KELOLAND News reached out to the Sioux Falls School District about the settlement and was told no interviews are being done at this time. The SFSD said a joint statement will be released later on.
