Madison, WI – Following today’s Inauguration ceremony, Senator Jesse James (R-Thorp) is eager to dive into the 2025-2026 legislative session, bringing energy and focus to tackling Wisconsin’s most pressing issues.
“This session presents an incredible opportunity to make meaningful progress for our communities,” said Senator James. “I’m committed to working with my colleagues to ensure every Wisconsinite has access to the resources and support they deserve.”
Senate leadership has reappointed Senator James as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Mental Health, Substance Abuse Prevention, Children and Families. In addition to his chairmanship, Senator James will serve as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety, and as a member of the Senate Committees on Utilities and Tourism and on Health.
“I am honored to continue leading the Senate Committee on Mental Health, Substance Abuse Prevention, Children and Families,” said Senator James. “Over the past session, we were able to pass several critical bills that will have a lasting impact on our state’s mental health and public safety. These included the creation of a pilot program to support telehealth crisis response, funding for first responder peer support programs, legislation that will allow for the creation of new crisis urgent care centers to help individuals in mental health crises, and more. These efforts are just the beginning, and I look forward to building on this foundation in the months ahead.”
Additionally, Senator James is dedicated to advancing the work from last session’s Study Committee on Emergency Detention and Civil Commitment of Minors, focused on strengthening emergency mental health care for minors and delivering vital support to families.
