SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —Good morning KELOLAND! It’s a chilly start to the day, but a seasonably cool day is ahead with some sunshine and light winds through the region.
Temperatures have dropped into the teens in many areas, with 15 this morning in Aberdeen and Watertown.
A few clouds will be filtering across the region today with highs in the 30s and 40s. A few 50s will show up in the far south and southwest. Partly cloudy skies are ahead tonight, with partly sunny skies for many areas tomorrow as winds turn around to the southeast. It still looks dry for the first half of the weekend.
A cold front and low pressure system will be on the move for the second half of the weekend. We expect some light snow chances by Sunday afternoon in western SD, with a chance of light snow spreading east Sunday night and Monday. Stronger NW winds of 15-30 are expect along with colder highs by Monday.
You can see those trends on the map below.
The pattern for next week is still messy, but the good news is the chance of big snow in KELOLAND are low for now. Having said that, a low pressure center in Colorado and Kansas could produce snow to our south starting Wednesday into Thursday. Also, a clipper-type system could arrive here from the northwest after Thanksgiving. We’ll watch it for now.
Cold air will be lurking to our north much of the extended forecast. The challenge ahead will be determining how much and how fast that cold air will make a move toward KELOLAND. The time period just after Thanksgiving is looking colder, with highs in the teens and 20s looking more likely. Early December will be interesting to watch to see if the cold stay north or breaks loose and descends into the northern plains.
Here are the details of the forecast.
