DEATH VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — A long-running heat wave is gripping the U.S. after causing deaths and shattering records in the West over the weekend. Hot temperatures are predicted again Monday (July 8, 2024) in the West as well as in parts of the East Coast and the South. A visitor to Death Valley National Park died from heat exposure and another person has been hospitalized as the temperature there reached 128 degrees this weekend. Officials say the two visitors were part of a group of six motorcyclists riding through the Badwater Basin area Saturday. An excessive heat warning is in effect Monday for portions of states including California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
