LARAMIE, Wyo. (SDSU) -– The South Dakota State soccer team scored two goals in the opening 30 minutes, then added another to its tally late in the second half, en route to a 3-0 victory over Wyoming at Madrid Sports Complex on Sunday.
The Cowgirls got off to a quick start on the attack as Wyoming produced two shots on goal in the opening six minutes of action. Both were saved by SDSU starting goalkeeper Emma Knack.
The sixth minute of play saw the Jackrabbits get on the scoreboard and register the eventual game-winning goal. Mia Bosch dished a pass back beyond the midfield line to Katherine Jones who booted the ball up to forward Hailee Christensen who raced into the box. The SDSU freshman one-timed a shot from the right side and found the back of the net, giving the Jackrabbits an early 1-0 advantage.
The 30th minute saw SDSU tack on to its lead. A flurry of shots over the course of a few moments eventually saw Katelyn Beulke hit a left-footed strike into goal, giving the Jackrabbits a 2-0 edge.
Knack made three saves in the first for the Jacks before Stephanie Leckwold stepped in for the final 45 minutes at goalkeeper. Leckwold wound up making four saves in the second half as the Jackrabbits kept the Cowgirls off the scoreboard.
SDSU’s Bosch made several moves and hit a shot from just outside the top of the box in the 80th minute, putting the match out of reach as the goal made it 3-0 in favor of South Dakota State.
