SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota State football has their new head coach.

The university announced Tuesday night that they’ve hired Dan Jackson. Jackson will become the 22nd head coach in Jackrabbit football history.

The Omaha native played for SDSU from 2003-05. He joined the SDSU’s ‘ coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2012.  He was elevated to cornerbacks coach in 2014 and also served as recruiting coordinator, special teams coordinator and assistant head coach under John Stiegelmeier before moving on to Northern Illinois following the 2019 season.

Jackson served as the defensive backs coach during the 2023 and 2023 seasons at Vanderbilt. He became a defensive coordinator for the first time in 2024 at Idaho.

Former SDSU football head coach Jimmy Rogers left Brookings on December 28 to take the head coaching job at Washington State.
