BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — The SDSU women’s basketball team will begin its run in the NCAA tournament this weekend.

It’s the team’s third straight appearance in the tournament and the 13th in the past 17 years.

KELOLAND News spoke with fans ahead of the first-round game.

Kelsey Schuchhardt knows a thing or two about SDSU basketball.

Not only is she a Jackrabbit fan, but she’s also a member of the pep band.

“There’s a lot of energy. It’s super fun,” Schuchhardt said.

The freshman is excited the women are returning to the NCAA tournament.

“They’re the 10 seed and honestly I think they’ll do pretty well,” Schuchhardt said.

Another student KELOLAND spoke to isn’t surprised the women are heading back to the big dance.

“I know they did really good during the season,” SDSU Student Addison Smith said.

SDSU will face off against Oklahoma State on Saturday.

“They should be able to have a good game there and then hopefully just keep going,” Smith said.

The Jackrabbits play Saturday afternoon at 2:30 PM CT in Connecticut.

“I am certainly going to catch as much of it as I possibly can and definitely be watching their Instagram to see all of the updates,” SDSU Student Nicole Ball said.

“I know a lot of the SDSU fans will be watching, and hopefully we win,” Schuchhardt said.

SDSU is a No. 10 seed and Oklahoma State is a No. 7 seed.

KELOLAND Sports will be in Connecticut to follow the action.
