BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — A 28 point second quarter helped fuel SDSU as they cruised past Southern Illinois on Saturday in their Senior Day game.
The Jackrabbits mustered just three points in the opening 15 minutes.
However, they scored an Angel Johnson touchdown just 46 seconds into the second quarter and followed that up with three more rushing touchdowns in the frame. One from Mark Gronowski and two from Kirby Vorhees.
The Jackrabbits scored ten more points in the second quarter, behind a Hunter Dustman field goal and a three yard touchdown run from Amar Johnson.
Southern Illinois scored the final ten points in the loss.
The Jackrabbits continued their insane numbers on the ground. SDSU rushed for 288 yards on the ground, averaging 5.9 yards per carry.
SDSU threw for 215 yards and totaled 503 yards of total offense.
The bulk of the rushing yards came from Amar Johnson who tallied 157 yards rushing and averaged 11.2 yards per rush.
SDSU will close the season on the road next week. They’ll play at Missouri State.
