SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Food prices are rising, especially when it comes to beef products according to Feeding South Dakota… but a $300,000 donation from the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation could help.

“Since 2014, in our first event, we’ve partnered with Feeding South Dakota for that philanthropy, and that’s where we’ve led to $2.7 million in gifts for the purchase of beef for their food program,” Cattlemen’s Foundation president Ryan Eichler said.

The eleven-year partnership has provided 1.5 million pounds of beef to feed families across the state. A check presented to Feeding South Dakota Thursday morning comes from money raised at the Cattlemen’s Foundation’s annual gala.

“We had roughly 2,000 people in attendance. Following that, we hosted a concert in the Denny Sanford Premier Center with Parker McCollum,” Eichler said. “The donation is really a benefit of that gala, the kindness of beef producers as well as affiliated businesses here in our home state.”

Feeding South Dakota said the donation will help purchase beef products, and ensure families get the nutrition they need.

“Without them, we would not be able to feed families in all 66 counties. This is how our missions really align. These are families that care about families,” Feeding South Dakota CEO Lori Dykstra said.

The $303,622 gift will help feed neighbors in communities all across South Dakota.
