CHICAGO, I.L. (KELO) – It’s the fourth and final day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Vice President Kamala Harris is set to take the stage tonight to make her nomination speech.
“I’m hopeful that she addresses teacher pay and maybe on gun violence and also school lunches seems to be a really big issue,” South Dakota delegate, Kellen Returns From Scout said.
South Dakota delegate, Julian Beaudion from Sioux Falls, says he’s enjoyed listening to all the speeches.
“From day one, just listening to all the amazing speakers, some of the performers that have come out, and just experiencing the energy around us has been so motivating and so inspiring,” Beaudion said.
Education policies are another topic delegates are looking forward to hearing.
“The whole institution of public education is to empower and to inspire, make sure that our next generation of leaders is going to be armed with all of the knowledge and everything that they need to carry forward with this great American experience,” Returns From Scout said.
Many delegates made the trip to show their support in person this year, with all 20 of their votes from the delegation endorsing Harris on the Democratic ticket.
“It takes a lot to be a delegate,” Returns From Scout said. “I mean, there’s a lot of preparation and there’s a lot of personal time and commitment, financial investment, and your own out-of-pocket costs to come and represent your community that you’re elected from to the best of your ability.”
South Dakota’s delegates will attend their final caucus today including the Rural Caucus and Youth Councils.
