CHICAGO, IL (KELO) — More than 4,000 delegates will pack into the Democratic National Convention to listen to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Wednesday night.

The South Dakota delegates at the Democratic National Convention made their support for Vice President Kamala Harris clear at roll call Tuesday night.

“South Dakota is honored to cast all 20 of our votes for Vice President Kamala Harris, who will soon be known as Madam President,” South Dakota Democratic party chair Shane Merrill said.

And today, they are just as optimistic about the Harris and Walz ticket.

“Well, I think people are fired up. It’s a change. It’s something different that we haven’t had in a long time. I’d probably compare it to something like 2008 when we had just a fresh voice on the stage,” Merrill said.

“We’re real excited. When you’re on a campaign, I’ve been doing this a long time, you want this excitement, enthusiasm going into the final stretch,” South Dakota Democratic Party national committeeman Dennis Olson said.

When Minnesota Gov. Walz speaks Wednesday night, the delegates hope he sheds a light on rural America.

“From Gov. Walz, I’d just say the agriculture thing. I think that’s been lacking a little bit this week, if anything, so hopefully, he can bring that message forward for us and be a voice for rural South Dakota,” Merrill said.

“I’m so proud that they picked Walz because of what that says is they know the road to the White House is through rural America,” Olson said.

Vice President Kamala Harris will speak Thursday night to wrap up the convention. Meanwhile, Republican candidates former President Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance were campaigning in North Carolina on Wednesday.
