A company allegedly contracted by Saint Augustine’s University for janitorial, maintenance and lawn care services has sued the university for neglected payments, WRAL reported.

The company, Management Professionals, claims the historically Black university in Raleigh owes over $1 million in unpaid fees. According to the lawsuit, the university stopped making full payments in August of last year. The suit alleges breach of contract.

Saint Augustine’s has had its share of legal and financial struggles in recent years. The university regained its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools this summer after losing it last December and sending students home to learn remotely this spring, following a lost appeal. Saint Augustine’s was also hit with a $7.9 million lien for unpaid taxes from the Internal Revenue Service earlier this year. Meanwhile, the university is locked in a legal battle with the Save SAU Coalition, a group of alumni and others calling for the Board of Trustees to step down. The board chair recently rejected the idea of a merger with Shaw University.
