SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– It’s Tevell Townsend’s first New Year’s Eve with A to B Taxi.
“I’m projecting that we’ll be fairly busy tonight,” Townsend said.
While the driver supervisor does work behind the wheel, he’ll be dispatching drivers Tuesday night.
“I’ll be answering the phones, and coordinating the drivers getting to and from, making sure they get the right people and get them home safely,” Townsend said.
Taking a taxi or a ride-share home are options to consider if you’ll be drinking alcohol.
You can also make ride arrangements with a family member or friend who won’t be drinking.
Sam Clemens with the Sioux Falls Police Department recommends coming up with a plan before you go out.
“We don’t want to see anybody that’s impaired that’s driving or decides to get behind the wheel. If you have that plan in place, then you know you’re going to be safe,” Clemens said.
The police department will have extra officers on duty Tuesday night looking for impaired drivers.
“We don’t really see a huge increase in problems on New Year’s Eve, but it’s really just in case. There’s a lot of people out, a lot of extra people out celebrating. We just want to make sure it’s done safely,” Clemens said.
And people like Townsend will help keep the New Year’s Eve celebrations safe.
“If you’ve been out drinking, you definitely don’t need to be driving,” Townsend said.
