SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A big change is planned for a longtime breakfast and lunch spot in Sioux Falls.
The owner of Rosie’s Cafe says the restaurant is for sale after more than 40 years of business.
You can find Fred Kuil and his wife Marlys at Rosie’s cafe a few times a week.
“It’s good food. It’s reasonable,” Fred Kuil said.
Owner Beckie Mettler’s mother Rosie Warner started this business in 1984.
“We try to be that escape, that hometown little escape in the big city,” Mettler said.
But now the Sioux Falls staple is for sale.
Mettler, who lives on Brant Lake, is planning on opening a cafe in nearby Chester.
“So it will be a five minute commute to work versus my 45 minute that I’ve been doing for a few years now,” Mettler said.
Despite the shorter commute, the decision isn’t an easy one.
“Rosie’s is huge to us, our family,” Mettler said.
Mettler says there are a few interested buyers.
As for right now, diners can still stop in for a bite to eat.
“I’m not just going to hang a sign and say I’m gone. I’m not doing that, so they’ll have plenty of notice on what is happening,” Mettler said.
That’s good news for Rosie’s regulars like the Kuils.
“There’s lots of big restaurants. They’re all the same. This is kind of neighborhood,” Kuil said.
Mettler plans on opening the cafe in Chester in May.
She plans on serving many of the items on the current Rosie’s menu.
