SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Rosebud Sioux Tribe has been selected to receive millions of dollars from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA says the tribe will receive a $7,879,394 Climate Reduction Grant as part of the Biden-Harris Administration Investing in America agenda.
The tribe will use the money to install EV charging stations, purchase electric buses and EV garbage trucks.
In a news release by the EPA, Rosebud Sioux Tribe Environmental Director Ivan Crow Eagle said the money is a great opportunity for the tribe.
“We are so humbled and grateful for the selection of the Rosebud Sioux Tribes Climate Pollution Reduction Grant application,” Crow Eagle said in a news release. “Words cannot express the selection to provide the Rosebud Sioux Tribe with such a glorifying opportunity to be awarded with a prestigious grant.
“The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is looking for more ways to provide more Green Energy opportunities and solutions to help with the structures, ecosystems, and the Environment for the people and wildlife of the Rosebud Reservation,” Crow Eagle said in the release.
The EPA said it “made its Tribes and Territories Competition selections following a review of 110 applications that requested a total of more than $1.3 billion in funding.”
