Some BIG news in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was announced Saturday at Comic-Con in San Diego: Robert Downey Jr. is BACK!!!
But he won’t be returning as Iron Man. (As you know, Iron Man died in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”.)
Downey will be playing the VILLAINOUS Victor von Doom . . . a.k.a. “Doctor Doom” . . . in the next two “Avengers” movies, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”.
He was revealed onstage among a group of people cloaked wearing Doctor Doom masks. He emerged from the back in a green suit and took off HIS mask and said, quote, “New mask, same task . . .
“What did I tell ya? I like playing complicated characters.”

It’s unclear at this point how he can play TWO Marvel characters, besides him being just THAT good. But since the multiverse is a thing, anything seems possible.
But there IS a comic book storyline where Doctor Doom takes on the role of Iron Man. So maybe there could be a connection to Iron Man.
