RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — A Florida man was sentenced to involuntary manslaughter after striking a motorcyclist with his vehicle.
On November 24, 2022, Giles Frederick Hulsmann, 38, of Fort Welton, Florida, was lost from his destination near Pine Ridge, S.D. Instead of orienting himself with the area, Hulsmann flew into a rage and drove about 80 mph in a 45 mph zone and struck a motorcyclist.
The accident was reconstructed which determined Hulsmann did not step on his brakes prior to the crash. Hulsmann did not swerve out of the way to avoid hitting the motorcyclist head-on, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of South Dakota.
Hulsmann was indicted by a federal grand jury in June of 2023. He plead guilty in May 2024 and was sentenced in July 2024 to two and a half years in federal prison.
