SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A 44-year-old road construction worker was killed in a crash two miles east of Wessington on U.S. Highway 14 Tuesday afternoon.
According to a news release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at 12:55 p.m. involving two vehicles and a woman construction flagger.
Officials say the flagger was directing westbound traffic to slow down and stop when a pickup truck stopped as directed before getting hit by a driver of another truck traveling the same direction. The larger truck collided with the pickup truck which then struck the woman working as a flagger.
The worker died from her injuries and the two drivers had minor injuries and were transported to a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation. Officials did not say whether charges are pending in the crash.
The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family members.
