RICHMOND, Ind. — A 48-year-old man has been arrested in Richmond after he was reportedly associated with multiple armed robberies, along with a burglary and a carjacking.
According to a news release from the Richmond Police Department, 48-year-old Devon Young was reportedly linked to the armed robberies at a Family Dollar location and a CVS Pharmacy location in Richmond. Young has also been linked to the carjacking of a CVS shopper after the armed robbery, as well as the burglary of a beauty salon off of East Main Street.
The release said that detectives with the department’s criminal investigative unit led them to identify the suspect as Young. Young was recently apprehended by the United States Marshal Service at a hotel in northwest Indianapolis.
Young was reportedly on parole after serving 20 years in prison for charges of armed robbery, firearms violations and criminal confinement related to a Marion County case in 2003. Young will face new charges in relation to the Richmond incidents.
“This arrest is a prime example of what happens when you commit a crime in Richmond—you will be caught,” Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly said in the release. “We will not allow criminals to terrorize this community. We are committed to holding offenders accountable, and we will continue to bring the full force of the law down on anyone who threatens the safety of our citizens.”
According to court documents, Young has officially been charged with one count of armed robbery. An initial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 9.
