(WXIN/WTTV): Attorneys for convicted Delphi murderer Richard Allen have filed to appeal his conviction in the February 2017 murders of Abby Williams and Libby German near the Monon High Bridge.
Allen was sentenced to 130 years on Dec. 20, one month after a jury found Allen guilty on four counts of murder. As of this article’s publication, the specific documents filed in the Indiana Court of Appeals have not yet been released.
According to online court records, the appeal was filed on Tuesday, March 11, exactly one day before the full “Bridge Guy” video was leaked online. The entire 43-second video taken by Libby German was played in court for members of the jury to see. However, this is the first time it has been released to the public. To view the video, click here.
This marks the latest development in what is continuing to be a contested conviction. In late January, Allen’s defense team filed a 24-page motion to correct errors. This focused on the timeline of the murder and called into question Allen’s safekeeping order as Allen’s attorneys have continued to maintain their client’s innocence and criticized the state’s procedure issues in the case.
On Feb. 28, Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland responded to a motion by Allen’s defense team to “preserve evidence” presented by Ricci Davis, an Indiana state prison inmate. In the letters, Davis claimed Ron Logan had confessed to killing Abby Williams and Libby German. The bodies of the girls were later found on Logan’s property in Delphi in 2017.
McLeland countered against this, arguing that the confession did not match Davis’s account.
