Lt. Tommy Neiman has been working with the St. Lucie County Fire District for about 30 years. He’s now a chaplain, but he started as a paramedic.
Neiman said he had no idea — as he was preparing to have carpel tunnel surgery earlier this month — that his pre-op nurse would take him on a trip down memory lane.
“She was talking to me and then she just suddenly said, ‘Did you write a book?’ And I said, yes. She said, ‘Well, believe it or not, you delivered me!’ And I said, ‘What?’” Neiman said. “She said, ‘Yes, you delivered me at my parents’ house.’”

Neiman said he had delivered other babies, but this was a first.
“It was my first delivery in Port St. Lucie and this girl that is calling me about my pre-op surgery preparation and in the next breath telling me that I delivered her in her parents’ bedroom,” Neiman said.
He said that was 26 years ago.
“I kind of helped her get out of the womb and now she’s helping me get through surgery,” Neiman said.
He couldn’t wait to meet her in person and when he did he said it was just a really neat time for both of them.
“I told her that very day, ‘You certainly look a lot different from when I saw you last,’” Neiman said.
