MILWAUKEE – Today the Committee on Community Engagement & Racial Justice of the Milwaukee County Youth Commission issued the following statement about the report that was recently released by Forward Analytics:

“This report is a warning signal to Wisconsin: we must include young people in planning and decision-making about a future that will disproportionately affect them. We know that the trends of an aging population and fewer births will not soon change, so we must focus our efforts on making Wisconsin a place where young people feel there is a long-term future for them. This means informing and including young people in nearly every industry and sector. In ten years’ time, today’s elementary students will be in college thinking about which career to pursue and today’s college students will be thinking about where to live more permanently, just as we reach an unprecedented need for workers in the medical, health, and long-term care fields. Teenagers who are currently influencing pop culture to a greater extent than any point in history are already designing the future. Wisconsin policymakers who understand the relative power and value of young people and invest in their inclusion will benefit from their perspective, ingenuity, and energy for years to come.”

Members of the Committee on Community Engagement & Racial Justice: Kassidy Gindt (Chair, D9), Daniel Damon (1st Vice Chair, D10), Brody Kaminski (2nd Vice Chair, D6), Loren Muwonge (Commission Co-Chair), Ramaro Hopkins (D5), Genevieve Skibicki (D11), Ben Elko (D14), and Zenia Shaker (D17).
