The general election of 2024 has created a multitude of success stories for Republicans at all levels of government. At the state legislative level, a significant success story happened in Northeast Phoenix’s Legislative District 4, where all three Republican legislators have experienced significant wins.
A prime example of this is Representative Matt Gress. He won his reelection bid for a second term handily despite being a top target for defeat by the Democrats.
As a result of his performance during his first term in office, Rep. Gress will be recognized by the Common Sense Institute as one of its Visionaries for the Future Awareness at its upcoming Free Enterprise Summit.
In a public announcement, the Institute stated, in part, “…Rep. Gress has supported policies that support job creation and responsible budgeting. We look forward to seeing him continue this work into 2025, tackling key issues that matter to
Arizonans.”
According to their website, the Common Sense Institute (CSI) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose activities revolve around the principles of free enterprise, economic vitality, individual opportunity, and dynamic research.
Legislative District 4 has two other rising stars in its legislative delegation. They are newly-elected Senator Carine Werner and Representative Pamela Carter.
Much has been written about the fact that Republicans gained several seats in the AZ state legislature. In the Senate, they gained 1 seat that increased their lead to 17-13. In the House they gained two seats to end up with a 33-27 advantage.
What makes LD4 stand out is that both Ms. Werner and Ms. Carter played key roles in those Republican successes.
Ms. Werner contributed 100% to the one-seat Republican gain in the Senate by defeating long-term incumbent Christine Marsh, while Ms. Carter contributed 50% of the Republican two-seat gain in the House with her defeat of incumbent Kelli Butler.
All this happened despite Democrats grossly outspending Republicans. According to the AZ Mirror, in LD4, Democrats spent $1,112,288 on the House race and $1,046,458 on the Senate race.
