SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota’s 3 electoral votes will be going to Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump.
The Associated Press called South Dakota for Trump shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m. Results for South Dakota’s election start getting shared by the Secretary of State’s office when polls close in western South Dakota.
With 1% of precincts reporting, Trump led 71% (3,095) to Kamala Harris’ 27% (1,200).
National results are still coming in but News Nation has projected Trump as a winner in several states including Wyoming, North Dakota and Kansas as of 8:08 p.m. CT.
South Dakota’s Presidential Electors for the Republican Party are Gov. Kristi Noem, Lt. Gov. Larry Rhoden and Attorney General Marty Jackley.
This is the third time Trump has won South Dakota as a presidential candidate. In 2020, Trump won South Dakota with more than 60% of the vote (62%-36%) and he won in 2016 with 62% of the vote (62%-32%).
Final numbers for how many votes Trump received as well as other candidates including Democratic candidate Kamala Harris won’t be in until all votes are counted.

According to Republican Rep. Tony Venhuizen, who runs a South Dakota history website, South Dakota has only voted for the Democratic ticket four times since statehood in 1889.
