MADISON, Wis. – Today, Governor Tony Evers issued an Executive Order that creates the Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention. The office will be created and funded through $10 million in ARPA funding, and through grant funding will aid and invest in programs to prevent violence throughout the state. In response Representative Kalan Haywood (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement:
“Whether it be school, work or the comfort of our homes, we all have the right to feel safe. For far too long we’ve accepted the status quo, and I applaud Governor Evers for his proactive and preventative approach.
“The Sensational 16th Assembly District and the City of Milwaukee has come a long way in reducing violent crime. I applaud Mayor Johnson and the Milwaukee Police Department for their hard work seeing drastic reductions in homicides, gun violence, and property crimes. With the creation of the Office of Violence Prevention, I am confident additional funding can enhance the work of the City of Milwaukee and make our neighborhoods safer places to work, learn and live.“
