SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — Extreme fire danger is a top headline for much of western South Dakota both today and tomorrow.

You can see the areas involved with the warning on the map below. Hot temperatures, low humidity, strong winds, and the threat of dry lightning will all contribute to these conditions.

We saw a little rain yesterday in eastern KELOLAND, but most of the amounts stayed light.

Additional widely scattered showers and t-showers could develop in western KELOLAND today and this evening in western KELOLAND. However, the relative humidity looks low, adding to the concern for dry lightning.

South winds will be increasing over the next couple of days. You can see the stronger gusts in central and western KELOLAND tomorrow, with gusts of 40-50 mph possible. While the wind should be lower on Friday, we still expect a dominate south breeze the next several days.

Futurecast also shows the scattered rain chances later today in western KELOLAND. We expect highs into the 90s this afternoon for both Pierre and Rapid City. Aberdeen and Sioux Falls will stay in the 80s for highs the next few days. Rain chances may return on Friday for western, central, and northern KELOLAND.

Here are the details of the forecast.
