SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It’s been active in western South Dakota this month with 5 days of measurable snow in Rapid City. It’s been a good start to the month for playing catch up in the Black Hills.
Here’s a list of the snow total so far this season for parts of the Black Hills.
Lead leads the way with amounts of 34 to 42 inches, followed by Spearfish.
It falls to nearly 9.5 in Rapid City, 8.8 in Hill City and, and just shy of 8 at Mt Rushmore.
About a third of the seasonal snow total so far for Spearfish, Piedmont, Rapid City, Hill City, Mt. Rushmore, and Custer has fallen during the first week of this month. And there’s more on the way over the next couple of days.
Snow is good for business for western South Dakota as many go west for skiing and snowmobiling. But be sure to check ahead for the snowmobile trails. Last I checked, they were labeled as good to poor conditions with thin and bare spots. So the snow that’s coming will be welcomed.
