Many Hoosiers woke up to the sound of thunder and the view of lightning in the sky Saturday morning! Downpours occurred in many hometowns but these exit later this morning. This will set up for a mild, breezy and dry remainder Saturday.
Mild, breezy and Dry Saturday on tap
While I can’t rule out a very isolated storm or two later this afternoon, we’ll overwhelmingly remain dry. Highs will get into the upper 60s north to mid-70s southwest. This will be thanks to several breaks in the clouds and plenty of warm air advection moving into Central Indiana. Minus the very stray storm chance, today will feel like mid-to-late May around here. Winds will shift to come out of the west gusting as high as 30 miles per hour.
Easter looks dry to start, storms move in late
Easter Sunday will NOT be a washout and dry hours are promised. No problems from the weather department if you have holiday plans in the morning. But rain chances on Sunday will gradually go up throughout the day. The stationary front that hasn’t moved much over the last two days will continue that same thing on Sunday.
We’ll have a temperature spread from 50s north to near 70° south. Once that front lifts north as a warm front, that will allow for rain and storms to develop. Late-day showers and storms are possible, some of which have a low severe threat with gusty winds and hail. It looks to be scattered activity but depends on how much the atmospheric “cap” can break Sunday afternoon/evening.
Active start to work week, severe storms possible
An area of low pressure with associated cold front will move east and spawn another round of severe weather with it. Monday will be warm with highs in the lower 70s. Dry hours will be promised but the potential for heavy rain and storms looks increasingly likely late Monday into early Tuesday. For that timeframe, the Storm Prediction Center has placed Central Indiana under a level two (of five) risk for severe weather. We’ll monitor this as we get closer.
Temperatures will plummet starting Tuesday after the front passes through. We’ll have a brief cooler stretch with highs struggling to hit 40° Wednesday. We could even see a few lingering rain or snow showers as moisture wraps around the low-pressure center. That will be brief as temperatures get a bit better by Friday.
