The weather is quiet across central Indiana this Monday morning. Temperatures dropped into the mid to upper 20s due to the clear skies overnight. Now cloud cover is building into the area with a storm system set to track over the Great Lakes region.
Central Indiana is situated in the “warm sector” of the low-pressure system, which will keep all precipitation as rainfall. Rain chances rise after 3 PM with widely scattered showers move into the area. The coverage is expected to rise during the evening hours.
If you plan on traveling to northern Indiana and Michigan today, there may be travel impacts on your trip. Freezing rain and an icy mix is possible in southern Michigan today with the northern half of the state having a shot at accumulating snowfall. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued in Michigan, the northernmost Indiana counties, and Wisconsin.
The light, steady rainfall ends after midnight and we will be left with overcast skies, and potentially patchy fog/drizzle. Skies will remain cloudy on Christmas Eve with highs in the lower 40s.
Another round of rain is going to move into the state Tuesday night and into Christmas morning. It still looks like it will be a damp and gray Christmas for central Indiana. The more widespread shower activity becomes more scattered by the afternoon. Highs on the holiday rise into the mid-40s.
Temperatures will continue to rise through the week and eventually reach into the 50s by Thursday! The milder weather will come at a cost and there will be more rain chances that will last through the weekend.
