SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A state commission has proposed reducing the mountain lion population in the Black Hills to 150 to 250 as part of the South Dakota Mountain Lion Action plan for 2024-2028.
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) said in a news release that the GFP commission requested the population objective be reduced to 150 to 250 from 200 to 300. Additional time for public comment is allowed on the plan because of this requested change.

Written comments on the plan can be sent to 523 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, S.D. 57501, or submitted at gfp.sd.gov/forms/positions/. Comments must be received by the respective deadline and include your full name and city of residence.
Public comments can be made by Sept. 25.
